Choose a dual-monitor KVM by drawing the complete connection map first. Each computer, display and shared USB device must have a supported path through the switch. Resolution, refresh rate, EDID behavior and laptop video outputs matter more than a large “4K” badge.

Resolution and refresh rate consume link capacity together. Color depth, chroma format, HDR and audio also affect the stream, while Display Stream Compression may enable modes that an uncompressed calculation would exclude. Check the KVM’s supported timing table or ask the manufacturer about the exact mode. Then confirm every input and output cable. An adapter can alter direction, limit bandwidth or interrupt display identification. Why EDID matters when switching

A display reports its supported modes through Extended Display Identification Data. When an ordinary switch disconnects that channel, the inactive computer can think the monitor was removed.
