Processor names change every year. The expensive mistakes are more durable: too little soldered memory, the wrong software platform, a dim display, weak cooling or a USB-C port that cannot drive the setup you expected.

- L — Load: name the heaviest apps, not just “work” or “school.”

Editorial baseline, not a rule: 16GB is comfortable for ordinary use; 32GB gives development, creative work and heavy multitasking more room. If memory is soldered, decide before ordering.
1. Buy the limitation you cannot change
Storage can sometimes be replaced or supplemented. Memory, display, keyboard, port controller and cooling usually cannot. Compare those first. A faster processor inside an uncomfortable chassis will not fix glare, a cramped keyboard or a missing display connection.
Confirm whether memory and storage are replaceable; screen brightness and color coverage; exact port capabilities; supported external displays; webcam resolution; and the charger included.
If memory or storage is replaceable, check whether a RAM add-on will work and whether the M.2 SSD fits the slot and protocol before ordering parts.
2. Is an “AI PC” worth paying for?
Microsoft defines Copilot+ PCs around an NPU capable of more than 40 TOPS. That enables particular on-device Windows experiences; it does not make every spreadsheet, browser tab or older application faster. Pay for the NPU when you can identify a supported local feature or application—not because “AI” appears on the label.
For Windows on Arm, modern x86 and x64 applications may run through emulation, but hardware drivers must be Arm64. Verify your VPN, printer, drawing tablet, audio interface, anti-cheat system and specialist software one by one.
3. USB-C is a shape, not a promise
Two identical-looking USB-C ports can support very different data rates, charging and display output. USB4 can reach 80Gbps with certified cables; Thunderbolt 5 provides 80Gbps bidirectionally and a 120Gbps bandwidth-boost mode. Those figures matter mainly for advanced docks, multiple displays and fast external storage.

Sharing two displays between this laptop and another computer? Map the full dual-monitor KVM path, including the dock and every display mode.
4. Why two laptops with the same GPU can differ
A mobile GPU name does not specify the whole performance envelope. NVIDIA lists configurable power ranges for laptop GPUs; chassis cooling and firmware determine how long performance can be sustained. Treat GPU power, cooling and independent testing as part of the specification.
5. OLED or IPS?
OLED offers excellent contrast and can be compelling for media and color work. IPS remains a practical choice for long days of static interfaces and often costs less. OLED care features reduce image-retention risk, but buyers using fixed toolbars all day should still review warranty terms and panel-care settings.

Is 16GB of memory enough for four years?
It is a reasonable baseline for everyday use, but 32GB is safer for development, large creative projects, virtual machines and sustained heavy multitasking—especially when memory cannot be upgraded.
Does an NPU make Windows faster?
Only workloads designed to use it benefit directly. It does not automatically accelerate every application.
Can any USB-C charger power a laptop?
No. The laptop, charger and cable must support compatible USB Power Delivery profiles and sufficient wattage.
Should students prioritize processor speed?
Software compatibility, battery, keyboard, webcam, display and weight often affect a student more every day than a small processor difference.
